Stomach ache, or abdominal pain, is a common digestive disorder that can occur due to various reasons like indigestion, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhoea and GERD. Malfunctioning of digestive system causes stomach aches. Let’s discuss few home remedies for immediate action:
Ginger Tea:
Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and naturally occurring chemicals known as gingerly and shogalos which can help relax the muscles lining the intestinal track and relieve you from stomach ache and also aid in digestion. Fresh ginger root is best for making ginger tea as it will help to bring relief from nausea that usually accompanies a stomach ache. Add grated or finely chopped ginger in a cup of water. Bring it to boil and then simmer for 2 minutes. Remove from heat, strain and add 1 tsp. honey (optional). Sip this tea slowly.

Peppermint:
If fresh ginger is not available, you can use fresh mint. Either make tea by adding few sprigs of mint in boiling water or chew fresh mint leaves. Peppermint tea is also available in health food stores. It is a great remedy for menstrual cramps as well. Besides this, mint aids in digestion and also stimulates appetite. Peppermint tea is also good remedy for heartburn, indigestion and gas.
Hot Pack:
Heat works to relax and loosen the muscles. Using hot water bottle on the stomach can relieve you from stomach cramps. Lie down comfortably and rest the hot pack on your belly for 15 minutes. Re-heat if necessary to relieve discomfort.
Lemon Juice:
If stomach ache is due to indigestion, lemon juice can bring relief. Squeeze half a lemon in a glass of warm water and drink.
Fibre Fruits:
If constipation is causing stomach ache, eat a fibre rich diet. Eat lots of fresh fruits, vegetables etc. and drink enough water. This will stimulate bowel movement and bring relief from stomach ache.
